PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Metro Development Group, Tampa, Florida 2006 – Recent
Florida-Based Land Developer
Director of Information Technology
As
Metro’s first executive level IT person, I brought all
previously outsourced IT functions in-house to create the
company’s IT department. By shifting support, development and
network administration internally, I was able to save the
company over $250,000 annually on their technology budget AND
increased service levels to internal customers.
Feeling
equally at home with the functional users, I was also able to
step out of the “technology box” and leverage my business and
process improvement experience to accomplish the following:.
·
Oversaw the development and implementation of a Project
Management system designed to facilitate the land
development process
·
Led
the analysis of retain/replace decision of existing
financial system
·
Renegotiated/revised technology contracts to realize a
monthly overhead savings of 60% on IT and telecommunications
costs
·
Managed the conversion of the payroll system from in-house
to an outside service provider (ADP)
·
Converted from completely outsourced IT Department to 100%
in-house.
·
Managed the relocation/recabling of the company data center
·
Implemented a web-based employee self service portal
·
Implemented a web-based communication center to facilitate
transfer of critical financial data which was integral to
the closing of a $250mm Joint Venture with a private equity
firm
Centex Homes – Orlando, Florida 2005 - 2006
National homebuilder
Community Program Manager
At the
height of the Florida “land boom”, the Orlando office of this
national homebuilder needed a process guru to coordinate the
community opening process. Functional groups were not
communicating and there was quite a bit of redundancy and in
some cases, “dropped balls”. I worked with stakeholders to
develop, implement and manage a more efficient way to open
communities from land acquisition to home sales.
To
accomplish this, I analyzed and documented existing processes;
reviewed the “human” interactions, documented and prototyped
various hand-offs and created a scheduling template, complete
with appropriate dependencies. I created a team of process
owners who met weekly and facilitated workshops to document
process flows and coordinated with programmers in the creation
of a community tracking database for the collection of all
required data points.
The end
result was streamlined process and reduced cycle times from land
identification through the community opening. A few of my wins:
·
Facilitated Community Planning Sessions leading to
coordinated efforts in opening new communities
·
Greater collaboration among departments
·
Developed metrics to measure success/efficiency
·
Established processes to ensure timely & effective community
openings
